Privacy Policy

What we collect

We collect only what you voluntarily provide:

• Nickname — when you submit a score to the leaderboard (up to 16 characters). This is stored in our database along with your time, star rating, puzzle set, and the date.

We do not collect: emails, IP addresses, names, location data, or any personal identifiers beyond the nickname you choose.

Cookies

We use localStorage (a browser storage technology similar to cookies) to remember your progress on unfinished puzzles, your dark mode preference, and whether you've accepted this notice. This data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.

If and when Google AdSense is active on this site, Google may use cookies to serve personalised ads based on your browsing history. You can manage your ad preferences through Google's Ad Settings.

Leaderboard Data

When you submit a score, the following is stored in our Supabase database:

• Your chosen nickname
• Your completion time in seconds
• Star rating (1–3)
• Puzzle set name
• Date of completion

This data is visible publicly on the leaderboard. There is no way to delete individual entries — if you'd like your nickname removed, email us and we'll handle it within 14 days.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Supabase — hosts the leaderboard database (see their privacy policy).
• Netlify or Cloudflare Pages — hosts the static site (see their respective privacy policies).
• Google AdSense — may serve ads in the future (see Google's Privacy Policy).

Data Deletion

To request deletion of your leaderboard data, email hello@straitscrossword.com with your nickname and approximate date of submission. We'll process your request within 14 days.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "last updated" date.
